Arthur Van Rhyn has been well-known in Cambria for years. He was a cartoonist for The Cambrian, an artist and a supporter of Allied Arts. Arthur, 91, is a second-generation Californian, born in Barstow and raised in Compton. He worked for the California Department of Highways (now called CalTrans), eventually becoming a registered civil engineer. He also — in his 50s — got a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sculpture at Cal State Northridge.
Moving to the coast in 1983 he bought a vacant lot on Moonstone Beach Drive where Art built their family house and his studio, where he has lived and painted ever since.
