Description:

A demijohn, also affectionately known as a “glass balloon” was defined as a bulbous narrow necked bottle 1.5 to 15 gallons of liquid and typically encased in wicker, bamboo, reeds or willow twigs to cover and protect the glass bottle. It was used to transport and store molasses, olive oil, cider, brandy, sherry and rum. They were produced in the United States between 1870 and 1930 and much earlier across Europe
